new models for energetic self-sustainability
Sustainable energy sources include the use of solar and magnetic power. Since the whole region lacks the basic electric infrastructure starting directly with sustainable resources sets a good example to other future users as well. A special attention is dedicated to the treatment of water; recycling used water, using environmental friendly cleaning substances, building drinking water wells and water container for watering the plants.
Possibilities to use other technologies are still to be researched. Don't hesitate to comment this post or contact us, if you have some information on the issue that we could benefit from...

Educational and artistic programe
interchange & empowerment of local community
Educational and artistic programe aims to establish a long-term platform for knowledge and experiences interchange, represented either in a more official manner or communicated through artistic interventions. It's main goals are to empower participating community through knowledge distribution and by giving local artists a voice on the national and international level. Group of lecturers and artists is international. Their work covers a large variety of local and foreign issues, with main focus to provide practical knowledge (sustainability, new technologies, languages, computer education,...) as well as tracing and creatively recuperating local traditions (for example: building up a database or incorporation of a local lore into wall painting). Activities are organized in collaboration with Guinea Bissau and foreign NGO's, cultural associations and other socially engaged organizations. In practice the programe is realized through a series of lectures, workshops, concerts, exhibitions, movie screenings, theatre shows and other; a small library and a public internet cafe are to be established as well.

sustainable agriculture
permaculture, medicinal plants
Sustainable agriculture in the case of Badigue is based on principles of permaculture. Beside providing the food for visitors, staff and collaborators of the project a special section is dedicated to medicinal plants (with the emphasis on malaria treatment, but also other topical diseases in the region). Mainly local plants are used. Foreign species are implemented with the agreement with local experts. For educational purposes all the plants are tagged with name and use signs, both in english and kriol. Garden farm will also be the place of artistic intervention (with the emphasis on designing unique garden utilities) which transforms it into enjoyable working and relaxing environment.

badigue ecovillage
To put guiding principles of the center into practice an environment friendly accommodation facilities for collaborators and tourist will be built. Six traditional round mud huts with wild rice roofing, ecological bathroom facilities, a common space for dinning and relaxing and additional facilities, where personal development activities and holistic body treatment takes place, will be constructed. All these will be powered with the use of sustainable energy resources. Surrounding land is used for farming, breeding plants and animals, based on permaculture conclusions. For educational purposes all the plants are tagged with name and use signs, both in english and kriol. Garden that surrounds the resort will also be the place of artistic intervention (with the emphasis on designing unique garden utilities) which transforms it into enjoyable working and relaxing environment.
If needed, extra accommodation for visitors would be rented in Sao Domingos and surrounding villages (seaside resort in Varela, central Sao Domingos, ...). To offer better insight into the whole region of West Africa trips into neighbouring countries as well as inland arrival to Guinea Bissau through Sahara would be organized. For the means of raising awareness about river Cacheu natural park guided educational excursions with traditional canoes are predicted.
